Classroom Technology Standards

The purpose of Dare County Schools Classroom Technology Standards is to identify the equipment required to turn a traditional classroom into a 21st Century Classroom.  The goals of these standards are as follow:

  • Installed technology should interfere as little as possible with non-technology uses of the classroom

  • Faculty members should be able to operate the educational technology systems without the assistance of a technician

  • Technology installed in the classrooms should improve the learning, participation, and delivery of instruction to the students

Dare County Schools has identified three different sizes of classrooms.  The first classroom is a Full Classroom and is defined as a room that will seat 15 or more students.  The second classroom is a Half Classroom and  is defined as a room that will seat 5 to 15 students.  The final classroom size is a Resource Classroom and is defined as a classroom that will seat less than 5 students.  The standards are broken down by classroom size and are listed below:


Standard Equipment in a Full Classroom and Half Classrooms

  • Ceiling Mounted Projector - Projector should be 2000 lumens or better and no further than 12 feet from the projection wall

  • Audio Reinforcement Systems - Each system should include one teacher microphone and one student microphone with 4 ceiling mounted speakers

  • Analog TV Tuner - Tuner will be used to broadcast the local TV and Video Announcements through the ceiling mounted projector

  • Teacher Connection Station - Identified as a location in the classroom that allows the teacher to connect multiple video connection (SVideo/VGA/Composite) to the projector and audio inputs the the classroom audio reinforcement systems

  • VOIP Telephone - Telephone can be placed in classroom or in a office

  • Document Camera - Optional - If requested, it must connect via S video or USB through the computer

  • Network Connection - All classrooms should have a minimum of 6 network connection per classroom  

  • Desktop Computers - The standard number of computers is 4, but the principal of each school can relocate these devices at their discretion to better facilitate instruction

  • Audio Reinforcement Systems - Optional - Each system should include one teacher microphone and one student microphone with 2 ceiling mounted speakers

  • Analog TV Tuner / TV - Tuner /TV will be used to broadcast the local TV and Video Announcements

  • Teacher Connection Station - Optional - Identified as a location in the classroom that allows the teacher to connect to multiple video connection (S Video/VGA/Composite) to the projector and audio inputs the the classroom audio reinforcement systems
